Are you guys subject to the 100db laws?  Also, what do you have to offer over other San Fran clubs short of just being around?

first off, we're not subject to any noise laws that i am aware of although the club is small enough that there's really no need to have extremely loud sets. loud is great, but screeching amps are for beginners, we assume bands know how to set their levels. i hope you understand what i'm saying. we're not having death metal/crust punk shows.

second, we're not really in competition with "san francisco clubs" since we're located in the excelsior and most of the people coming are from the neighborhood, which means sf state and city college kids as well as old school SF folks who've lived in the hood forever. the nice thing about the club for touring bands is that for a cool spot to play its not heavily booked except in the summer which means you dont have to fight for a spot like you would at somewhere like the hemlock or the knockout. that said, i love both those clubs and encourage any band on this board to book them, but they are much more difficult to pin down. we are easy. bands get dollar draft of pbr all night, sometimes free shit depending on the attendance.

just letting yall know

what about the almighty dollar.  Do bands get paid, or just get discounted beer?

it depends, sometimes bands want to play on a monday and there's not much of a crowd. in cases like this we find its better to have it be free so people will actually come in.
as for shows on fridays saturdays/well promoted 3+band shows on weekdays, yes, we offer to work the door ourselves but we also allow bands to do the door and handle the money if it seems fitting. we're flexible. we also try to keep the door cost $5 or below unless its a very special event.

I would rather see a show at a venue located in the Excelsior then on Upper Haight or North Beach. I moved from San Fransisco a LONG time ago,but there were a number of venues that existed in both neigbourhoods at this point in time. The Nightbreak,Boomerang,I-beam,Casa Loma,Cocodrie, etc, etc had some very awesome shows. But.....I always liked El Rio or Chameleon and Bottom Of the Hill shows more because of the neighbourhood difference. No,there is no noise ordinance that I am aware of,as I used to see shows at various "spaces" on Capp street all the time and don't recall any problems from this.By neighbourhood difference,I am refrring to the police problem that some like myself have encountered on Haight and in North Beach in the past.
