The Stranger posted something online about how they get bitched at for not covering every band that they get demos / emails about. So they asked readers to suggest bands and why they should be covered.
I thought I'd share what I wrote about TDD:
I think this is really great that you are asking for readership input and I wish people would take it as a serious opportunity to expose you to good bands and hard working musicians instead of comments like "write about --- band because my husband / wife / best friend is in it and they are RAD!
There are quite a few Seattle bands that tickle my fancy that never find themselves in print in The Stranger, or maybe they do and I've missed it. Either way, there is just 1 band in Seattle that I would talk about for days if anyone let me.
The Damage Done.
In the 12 years that I have been going to local shows there have been 2 instances where I realized my jaw was on the floor and I couldn't figure out how long it'd been there. One was the first time I went to a punk show and the other was the first time I saw The Damage Done.
Just as you said in the blip above, you have to come to terms with the fact that there is too much music for one, even many people to handle. But do yourself a favor and just go see this band. Don't look up their myspace unless you really want to. Do that after you see them. Then buy everything they have ever recorded.
It's a 4 piece with a stand alone singer and you can tell that every second they spent playing the music they wrote is something they cherish and were born to do. The energy, passion and emotion (happy, sappy and hopeful at the same time) is dripping from every member of this band and they will do that for 4 people or 40. They've written music and they've done it for themselves. If you like it they are endlessly grateful for compliments and really pleased that people enjoy what they've done.
The drive and talent that this band brings to every performance has certainly effected the Seattle community and it is not uncommon to see them with a crowd who knows every word and sings along the whole time.
Lyrically they are intelligent, thoughtful and truthful. They have written guitar melodies that meld with wonderful background vocals while Ryan screams out emotion over a bouncy bass and dance able drum beats. You could call them punk, or post-punk, or pop-punk with a hardcore influence but I'd rather you forget labels and call them for an interview. No one in Seattle is playing music like this and with the intensity that the 4 of them do. I behoove you to look at them in motion. I've never seen anything like it.
Sorry for the long winded-ness. I suppose I've essentially written the article for you but these things happen when 4 creative souls catch the attention of another.
Thank you,
Kayla
