PDX "Preesh" Thread
« on: July 15, 2010, 05:28:40 PM »

I always loved PDX and was bummed when we left due to job stuff. In this thread we give Bunnypuncher a way to share his excitement of living in PDX and our good experiences there as well as good bands/record stores/Food Spots/etc. Go!!!

Already taken more bike rides in Portland than I did in Seattle in the past year (part of that was due to my knee, but still....), and the public transit is so much better/nicer!

I still don't know a ton of record stores, which is probably for the better until I get a job. I know Green Noise and Mississippi, and the vinyl section at the Everyday downtown is bigger than the entire Everyday store on Capitol Hill in Seattle. Ohhhhh boy.

Also drinking is SO CHEAP down here.

Been visiting a lot since last summer and fell in love with the city, have some friends who wanted me to move in with them. Just kind of perfect timing and the desire for a change in scenery.

Ha! Is that really fair though? Ballard is in the middle of fucking nowhere, nearly impossible to get to by bus or car. The public transportation down here is excellent, and I haven't really seen any aging rockabilly scenesters.... ;)

It's awesome, though. Loving it!

Try Discourage on SE Morrison and... 18th?
Specialize in rare punk vinyl.

And the burrito cart on 50th and Division, shit-tons of vegan stuff if you swing that way.

Dude, I live on Hawthorne! Looks like a cross between Fremont and the Ave to me, haha.
I'll have to check out Mississippi Delta.

I've walked by Discourage, I'll check it out when my funds improve.
I'm an omnivore, but I like knowing good vegan places for when all my dirty hippie vegan Seattle friends come to town. ;)

Hawthorne and 18th. But we're looking at a big 2-bedroom place on Sunday, up around Broadway and 28th.

Jackpot recs, while being way too hipster, has decent prices on used vinyl around $5 for newer punk and hardcore LP's, you have to look, but every now and again you can find a gem.

If you're on Hawthorne, while a totally cheesy place, Coney Island Dogs around 35th and Hawthorne has completely kick ass happy hour deals.  You can eat silly hotdogs and get radical for pretty cheap.

Let's drink some beers together soon!

FYI, the Zombie House is going to do shows once a month or once every other month...it'll probably be by invite only, but they just had Bastards of Young and Secretions play on Wednesday and though it was competing with 3 other kick ass PDX shows a bunch of folks came out and got down.  Good times.

Also, I concur that 2nd Ave, Centaur very fun/good places.  Glad you found Green Noise as well, that and Discourage are the best of SE.

Who's going to be booking those? I'd still love to play there sometime...
