the Mark Sparkles
« on: March 26, 2009, 08:14:20 PM »

Fun, obnoxious pop-punk. Songs about hating your job, Star Wars, girlfriends and stuff. Similar to any band Aaron Cometbus has ever been in.

The recordings on the MySpace are old, before I was in the band AND before we had a bass player.

We just recorded 12 songs in Bremerton with our friend Andrew (who plays guitar in Forty Seven). 10 originals, 2 covers (Dead Moon and Screeching Weasel). They will be on a 12" vinyl later this year.

Are the songs that you recorded with Andrew the same songs on your myspace?

No. The songs on the MySpace were recorded when the band was just a guitar-guitar-drums 3-piece, within weeks of the band forming. This was before I was in the band (I contribute lots more vocals and tambourine) and before the band had a bass player. We did re-record all the songs that are currently on our MySpace though, so you'll get to hear much better versions at some point.

I'd have to ask Ben, I don't know Andrew very well.

I guess Brian played "Mean Girls" on Sonic Reducer last night! Jake heard the very end of the song when he got into his truck at work. I'm listening to it online right now to hear the evidence!

Nice! Where did you get it, if you don't mind me asking? Just trying to keep the stores supplied.

Also, coming soon:

Mixtape CASSETTE (5 more originals and 2 covers we recorded during the Rage Blackouts sessions)

Abandon Hope compilation LP (one of our songs is on this, I think "Homemade Star Wars Movies")

Split 7" with Shakes (going to record these songs at the end of March)

Also heard there's a Squid & Ink benefit compilation cassette with one of our songs on it.

soooo stoked for shakes split!

how is the cassete a mixtape if it's just you? everybody knows it's taboo to put more than one song by the same band on a mixtape.

We have a song called "Mixtape." The cassette is named after that song. We actually call it "The Mixtape tape" since it's a cassette.

I picked it up at Abandon Hope's website -- http://abandonhoperecords.bigcartel.com/

They threw in some swag too which is always nice.
